Jun Matsushima, born in 1981, studied traditional realism at the Academy of Art in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Since 2012, Matsushima works with dancers and musicians of varying genres, from classical to contemporary, often depicting the figure in motion. Exhibiting a characteristic use of rhythmical, crescendoing lines, the highly abstracted, figurative compositions draw forth the interplay between what is visually distinguished and what is intuitively perceived of movement; culminating into an evocation of moving itself.
